What you get

There are four attachment styles. The quiz tells you which one is yours.

Everybody handles closeness in one of four ways. You picked yours up early, and it shows up loudest when something goes wrong.

Anxious Attachment

You love people closely, and when things go quiet you feel it fast and it's hard to put down.

Avoidant Attachment

You care more than you let on, and you need room to breathe before you can be close.

Disorganized Attachment

You want to be close to people and you brace against it, usually at the same time.

Secure Attachment

You can usually stay yourself when things get hard, and you expect a rough patch to be fixable.

Read about it

Your result names one of these, and shows you where you landed on both of the scales behind it.

Why it works

Most people are repeating something. It gets much easier to change once you can see what it is.

Answer honestly

A few questions about your situation, then twenty six statements you rate. Answer the way you actually are, not the way you would like to be.

See the pattern

You get scored on two things: how much you worry about closeness, and how much you keep your distance. That lands you in one of four patterns.

Then use it

Knowing your style does not change anything on its own. What you get next is help in the actual hard moments, with the words to say.

Before you start

The questions people ask first

How long does the attachment style quiz take?

About six minutes. There are thirty questions: four about your situation, then twenty six statements you rate from disagree to agree. You can go back and change any answer.

Is the quiz free?

Yes, and there is nothing to sign up for. You get your full result at the end without handing over an email address.

How accurate is it?

It is scored the way attachment research scores it, on attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance, against norms from a representative adult sample. It is good evidence about a pattern. It is not a diagnosis, and it is not permanent.

What are the four attachment styles?

Secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized. Each one comes out of two separate scores rather than a single box, so most people recognise a bit of a second style in themselves when they are tired or stressed.

Can your attachment style change?

Yes, and researchers have measured it. Long-term studies follow people who start out anxious or avoidant and become secure over time. Researchers call that earned security.

Do I need to be in a relationship to take it?

No. You can answer about a partner, an ex, a friend, a family member, or about the pattern you notice across all of them. The first question asks which.
